Personal Items Left Behind

Hi,

My niece offically gave notice and moved out of my

home in May (May 1st). Since then I have been trying to

get her to come move out all of her personal belongs

(furniture, clothes, etc). I speak with her on the phone

and all I get is 'I don't know when', or 'It's finding the

time and money to rent a truck and move it'.

I've recently sent her emails asking her when she will

be moving out her things, and have received no

response. My question is: when do I consider her

personal belongings abandoned? Can I get rid of her

things if she doesn't claim them? Do I have to give her

written notice? Thanks for you help.

First of all, she is your neice. Not a stranger. Put her stuff together and place it in storage. Then, send her a letter stating that everything must be removed no later than (at least 45 days). If she fails to get the stuff, then, you can give it to whomever you want. But, if it were me, I would hold on to it for her. Afterall, she is your neice. Good luck and thanks for inquiring.
