Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Im renting a room from my father in law. He also rents the property. We had a verbal agreement to pay him $ 25.00 a week. Plus do dishes. The other day he decided to up my rent to $150.00 and wanted to have it all at once. He told me this thru a thirty day notice to pay or quit. I paid him but he is still trying to evict me because he thinks his son is disrespectful. this doesnt seem legal to me what do i do?

Unfortunately rental agreements need to be in writing. It may be unenforceable unless you can show this has been the common arrangement for a while.
