Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Car behind hit my car as I was turning right into a building garage.

I was driving south on Rossmore Ave from 6th St to Wilshire. As I was turning into a building on Rossmore, car behind me hit my car. It hit passenger-side door. My car is a 4dr sedan and it crushed front door on passenger side. Rossmore is a wide lane but it only has single center divider. The accident occured about 200 ft to Wilshire. At the intersection of Rossmore and Wilshire, the lane become two lanes. Right lane becoming 'Turn Right Only' lane. FYI. On the day of the accident, cars were parked on the street and there was only one car space between the building I was entering and the parked cars on the lane. I wanted to file the police report on the spot but the other driver suggested that we just go through our insurance companies. As I was reporting the accident to my insurance company, I found out that my insurance had expired two days ago. Who is at fault and what should I do? I would greatly appreciate any inputs. Thanks in advance.

It is hard to tell who's at fault, although if a car traveling in the same direction as you hit your right side front door, it might appear you were turning from the wrong lane. You might be found to be at fault based upon that assumption. You should speak with an attorney and bring photographs to show why that presumption would be incorrect.
