we purchased a home last year

we had some storm damage requiring repair

contacted my home owners insurnace made a claim

contractor came out and instected damage

atached landry room is not upto code

will add an aditional cost of up to 30000

is previous owner liable for repair and how do I get them to pay

home was a reposetion bank owned propertier in tuolumne ca

The fact that a building is not up to code does not make the seller liable. Codes are updated often. No building that is more than a few years old is likely to be up to code in all respects. Even if it was not up to code when built, you would have to prove the seller knew that, and of course a bank would have no idea whether the building was up to code when the foreclosed on it, much less whether it was up to code when the laundry room was added or built. You should have taken out homeowners' insurance with a code upgrade coverage.
