If you have a very strong case, an attorney will take it on a contingency basis. I am currently litigating one. Call me directly at 6192223504.

If in the employment context, you must first file a claim with the California Dept. of Fair Employment and Housing. It can investigate the claim on your behalf and make a finding -- it usually takes 9 months to a year. Sometimes it will file a suit on the claimant's behalf. If it does not do so, it will give you a right to sue, and then you hire a lawyer and file the lawsuit. Alternatively, you can request a "right-to-sue" letter right away, and hire a lawyer. You'd have to file a suit within 1 year of that letter. Most courts charge around $300 for the lawsuit filing fee. Lawyers either take such cases on contingency or charge by the hour. However, there are many other costs to a lawsuit, including depositions, hiring of experts, travel, etc. The cost of a lawsuit can be staggering!

Filing fees at court are over $300. Preparing and properly prosecuting a lawsuit requires knowledge and experience of law and proceedures you apparently don't have, so what makes you think you can successfully fight the defendants' attorneys in court? Such lawsuits are difficult at best. If the reason you don't have counsel is that no one will take your case after reviewing the facts, you should rethink your plan. If you simply think you don't need an attorney, you should rethink your plan. Feel free to contact me if interested in doing this right, and IF you actually have a valid case.

As follow up: if no attorney will take your case, you should think about the downside to pursuing this -- the loser gets to pay the winner all his legal fees and costs. That means if you lose, you pay tens of thousands of dollars in attorney fees, or go bankrupt.
