Can you write off back taxes to IRS from 7 years ago?

Can you write off back taxes owed to IRS from 1991, amended in 1993?

Thanks for your posting. I am not sure what you mean by "write off", as that is normally a term used to deduct expenses from your current taxes.

If you mean can you apply deductions that occurred during 1991 retroactively to 1991, the answer is no. There is a fairly strict 3 year statute of limitations which would prevent you from changing your taxes at this point.

There are some exceptions, however, and you might want to examine those to see if you qualify.

Are you paying them now? Did you write them off previously, without paying them? What kind of taxes are they? Can't give an affirmative answer without more information.
