Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Hello

My mother who lives in England this week received news from the Foreign Office in London that her cousin (who is American) had died last month. The deceased had no immediate family so my mother was informed as the next of kin.

All we know is the approximate day of death and the fact that it was from natural causes. We don't know if a funeral has taken place, if there was a will and what is to happen to his estate in California.

Who can we speak to get more information?

Regards

Donna-Lee Jones

There are many places to look for information: legacy.com for obituary, local papers for obituary, call county morgue, call county probate office to see if case has been filed, etc.... Also, we can look up quasi-public records to see if the decedent owned real estate as that can give a clue if it's owned in a trust or not. I perform probate work throughout California. Feel free to contact me and I will see if I can help. -John

I could assist you in determining whether or not Probate has been open. However, beneficiaries would be notified. Contact me directly.
