The papers you will need to file depend on the nature and types of assets and how title to those assets is held. For example, if you owned real property in a joint tenancy, then you need to record a Notice of Death of Joint Tenant with the County Recorder. I can give you many other examples, but only an attorney reviewing the Will and your assets can advise you on what you need to do. I appreciate that you would like to avoid consulting with an attorney, but I think you would have greater peace of mind if you met with an attorney and knew that everything was being done correctly.
