Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Why do i as an emplyor have to pay workers comp money..when i give an employee a xmas bones�and he is not working.

The Labor Code requires all Employers to secure Workers Compensation Insurance coverage... and those who do not must pay all benefits and expenses directly . There is no excuse for not having coverage just because an employees isn't currently working.

If and when you have zero employees because you have separated all employees (they quit, they died or you terminated them), then you don't have to pay for workers compensation insurance coverage.
