Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Injury at work
My mother was injured at work but her injury was caused do to her type of work and length of time doing it. She has been going to the doctor but they have told her that her only choice is to get operated and then go back to work eventhough she will never be able to do the type of work she did before. But her employer has told her she cant come back until she can do the same job she was doing before. Is she entitled to anyother form of compensation or is there anything else she could do in this case.
