Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Colorado

Hi, I'm a new photographer and am wanting to take some photos of some models this month. I need them to sign a photo release form. I have one written up, but I am wondering if this would still be legally valid. Do I need it approved and formalized by an actual lawyer? How do I go about formally legalizing this release form?

A contract does not have to be written or approved by a lawyer to be valid. But non-lawyers often don't know how to write a valid contract, and make mistakes that come back to haunt them later. Even when they write a contract that meets all the legal requirements, they often fail to include provisions that are worth having even though the law doesn't require them.

There can be problems even if you're using a standard form and/or adapting a contract that someone else used previously. Such documents may have been inadequate to begin with (especially if they were prepared in another state with different laws), may have become outdated, or may simply not address your particular needs.

If you're worried that a deficient contract might cause problems for you, I suggest reviewing it with a local attorney before you use it.

Good luck.
