Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Colorado

can't seem to get an answer so here goes...My husband and I have been renting a townhouse for 3 years with the lease ending June1st. The original landlord died and the place was sold. The new landlords want to increase the rent from $1450 to $1900 (after giving us $100 off per month). We have never been late with the rent, keep the place immaculate. We are retired and on fixed incomes. We feel this is such a substantial increase and are very upset. Is this Legal?

If your lease is up on June 1 then you are required to move on June 1 unless you reach an agreement with the property owner on a new lease. You don't own the property. The owner does not have to agree to rent to you at ANY price. If you disagree with the price, then it is time for you to move. There is no law in Colorado that allows you to dictate a rental price to the landowner.

Your rent should not change until June.
