Legal Question in Business Law in Connecticut

Telephone requirement

My employer has just begun to require me to carry and have on a telephone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I am expected to drop whatever I am doing and answer the phone. I no longer have a private life because of this. They called me in church. They called me at the movies, etc. Is this legal? I am on salary.

Re: Telephone requirement

This question was forwarded to me as a "Business Law" question when this is actually an employment law question. Unfortunately, employment law is not my speciality so I cannot provide any advice to you.

However, I can suggest that you contact a law firm in Connecticut that specializes in employment and labor law. I'm under the impression that Jackson Lewis et al. has an office in the Stamford, CT, area. Another firm to consider is Cummings and Lockwood (they have several offices throughout Connecticut) --- I'm under the impression that they have an employment department.

Good luck.
