Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

I live in Connecticut and have an ex wife who has both mental issues and is self medicating with alcohol and prescription drugs. At this point she is going downhill rapidly and has been drinking all day everyday and not going to work for the past week and a half. I have the kids with me full time as she cannot keep them given she is always intoxicated. The police have been called to her house several times by her family as she is saying that she wants to kill herself. She has been in rehab before and looks like she may end up in the hospital soon and then rehab yet again. Two questions, one, should I go to court and get full custody of children now? I hate doing this as it would make her sink deeper in depression ( her family is 100% behind me on me keeping kids full time). Question two, how can I protect myself with respect to alimony ($1 a year now) and child support $35/month if she loses her job from all this?

Linda Subbloie Linda A. Subbloie, Esq.

As long as she is cooperating with you, which appears the case, you could wait until she is in the hospital/rehab since she will be supervised by professionals.

I'm not sure you can protect yourself if she loses her job. I don't have enough information to give you any ideas.
