Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Contract preventing company hiring past employee

I used to work for a large sports company supplying teaching services to smaller companies all over the US, but mainly in CT. Having left the company as they did not renew my contract, I am seeking to work independently - however, the large company is issuing new contracts to the smaller companies, stating that they cannot hire anyone who has worked for the larger company within the past two years. A smaller company or sub-contractor is looking to hire me as an indepedent contractor as well as staff from the larger company, but are worried that this will be problematic if they sign this new contract, as the penalties set forth are financially crippling. Can the large company prevent the small company from hiring me as an ex-employee, even if the I have never worked for that smaller company before? It seems as if the large company is trying to create a monopoly, and I would like to know where I and my potential employer would stand if we signed a contract BEFORE the two companies signed this new agreement with the additional provisions about ex-employees. Would that work?

Re: Contract preventing company hiring past employee

Assuming the small company and the large company have contracted to prevent the hiring there is nothing you can do. I would have to see the contracts at issue.
