Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in District of Columbia

Doctor commits suicide after being sued for malpractice

Hi. I hope you can help me. I need some information. Can a victim of medical malpractice still collect or continue their lawsuit if the doctor they are suing commits suicide? It is a private practice and no other doctors are involved. Thank you for your time.

Yes, the case goes on. Collecting depends more on whether he had malpractice insurance than on whether he is alive.

Yes, the suit will continue against the doctor's estate. Typically, the doctor had insurance which would continue to defend the suit, and would pay any settlement or judgment.
