Can More Time Be Given

A Friend was given a 10 year sentence reduced to 5 years.He has appealed for a time reducation.Should the appeal go through and he return to that Judge can the Judge up the sentence back to the 10 years? Does the Judge have the right to give more time after a sentence is made? He doesn't want to make it worse on himself.

I need to see the Judge's Order but I doubt that once the Judge reduces the term that the Judge will expand the sentence. However, if the case returns from an appeal a re-sentencing may be possible, which may mean more time, but I would have to review the Order.
