Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

legal documents for a partnership

Trying to figure out what kind of legal forms to use off the Internet. The business - charting boats in Florida. Buying into a 20 year business at 50%. I want everything on paper but I don't know what kind of forms to use or should I start from the begining with a attorney. There are so many Internet companys you can buy forms from. I thought I could just fill out the Internet forms to the best of my ability and than take it to a attorney to have it looked over. The partnership is going to cost me $130,000. Thank you for your time. Rebecca

Re: legal documents for a partnership

Use an attorney from the start. It will be money well spent. Most attorney's, myself included, provide more services than reviewing a form - and most, do not care to be involved if that is all they are doing. Liability reasons.

You have a multitude of considerations - tax, entity type, liability issues, ownership considerations (like it or not, you are marrying your partners, and like in family law, a divorce from a business is usually messy and costly).

Do yourself a favor and get good advice before signing any contracts. That way your interests can be protected.

You would really risk $130,000 and devote yourself to a 20 year relationship by relying on the generic terms written on a $19.95 internet form?

Please work with an attorney from the beginning.
