Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Verbal Agreements

I hired a company to clear 5 acres I own and we verbally agreed upon $7000.00. When the job was through he sent me a bill for over $12,500. The job took longer than he thought and he is trying not to lose money by doing this. I do not have any witnesses at the time of agreement but I do have an employee who worked for that company who says that he knew the amount was to low when he heard from thowner what I was being charged. He also has sent me to a collections agency and is becoming a pain in the butt. What can I do?

Re: Verbal Agreements

Advise them, in writing "the bill amount is disputed".

Re: Verbal Agreements

(1) Pay the $7,000.00 that is not in dispute.

(2) Write a letter why you are only paying $7,000.00.

(3) put on the check in the memo, "paid in full"

(4) Write the collection company telling them that this is a disputed debt as to validity and amount.

Good luck.
