Can a creditor from the state of Florida refuse to receive a past due payment and force me to pay through a debt collection agency that will increase the fees by more than 25%?

I need more detail to answer this question. What does the contact or agreement say? That is where you start. If it does not provide for these additional fees, then you do not owe them. In any case, the fees must be reasonable. Many times this is measured by the amount owed and what needed to be done. But beware, a collection agency must follow the law. Send it a verification letter. See my web site under sample forms for this. Want to know the law?
