There are a lot of possibilities about what might happen. Although the maximum punishment is up to one year in jail and a 2 year driver license suspension, the truth is that this is unlikely considering that it is a first offense. Nonetheless, it is very serious and the possibilities of what might happen can vary from a fine to probation to even pretrial diversion (which is a lot like probation except the charges get dropped).

But what isn't known as a possibility is what legal defenses are available. I always make a point to analyze all cases, especially drug related cases, for a possible motion to suppress. Often times the police make a mistake when it comes to a search and seizure of evidence, or perhaps they improperly questioned a suspect, and when these issues are litigated the court can throw out evidence, which is always good for the defense.
