Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Florida

Pregnancy discrimination

Pay was cut, but job never changed. Doctor's work

restriction orders were never followed i.e. working

in excess of 8 hour days, was not supposed to lift

over 20 lbs a day, lifting over 35 lbs at any given

time. No stock help to alleviate problem. Very

uncooperative in following scheduled appointments.

What exactly does pregnancy discrimination cover,

and based on information, what routes of recourse

might I be able to take?

Re: Pregnancy discrimination

A short answer would be that an employer may not make employment decisions such as hiring, firing, promotion or any decision that cover the terms and conditions of employment, based on pregnancy. For example, if your pay was reduced because your were pregnant, perhaps in an effort to get your resignation, that would be illegal. Pregnancy discrimination is considered discrimination based upon gender or sex and is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Talk to an employment lawyer or contact your local EEOC office (www.eeoc.gov). Please send me an e-mail if you have any specific questions.
