If your not court ordered to have an ignition interlock system on your car can the dmv require you to get one

It depends on when you were CONVICTED of the DUI. Several years ago judges sometimes didn't order it and the DMV said defendant must have it. Then the Supreme court said they can't do that unless judge ordered. Finally, they changed the law to require it whenever the person is required to have it, even if the judge misses it. Don't know what year but i'm guessing somewhere between 2004-2006. That all said, if the judge did not order it, you should hire an attorney to see what can be done.
