Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I might not have all the needed information here, but my boyfriend has been legally separated from his wife for 8 years. There has been no contact, and all of their assets have been liquidated. They have a son, but she never showed up to the custody court date about 8 years ago (when the child was 2), and has made no contact since.

She, at least as of then, wouldn't sign the divorce papers, but they did come to a legal separation agreement. He files as a single parent on his taxes.

In Florida, if she refuses to sign the divorce papers, what would he have to do to legally be divorced? He seems to think he just has to save a few thousand dollars and sign some papers and that's it. Could this woman-- who has another family with another man-- try to come after his assets?

Anything is possible, especially in Florida. He should file a contested divorce locally. If she does not fight matter can be over quickly. If she fights it will take longer and be more expensive.
