It depends upon whether any of these obligations are documented in some way. While oral agreements are enforceable, it is usually more difficult, as it becomes a "he says, she says" confrontation and the judge in all his/her wisdom decides who he /she believes. Also, the amount may not justify counsel, unless you have an agreement in writing that the prevailing party is entitled to their attorneys fee in addition to the underlying debt. If the amount owed to you is less than $5,000, you can consider small claims court. Check your court's website for forms and information. If your roommate was on the lease, then you have an agreement. Make sure you have proof of what you paid and are ready to show any proof you have that there was an agreement between the two of you. Otherwise, it will be your word against your roommate's, and the Judge will have to decide. If the Judge grants Judgment in your favor, then you get to worry about how you're going to collect on it. Call an attorney for legal assistance and advice. Regards,
