Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

My son said to me he couldn't afford his new puppy, he's 18...and he would probably have to give her up for adoption. The next day I found someone who said they wanted a puppy for his kids, so I said my son was putting puppy he could have his, I really thought I was doing the right thing, so I let him have the puppy. When my son came home he was devistated . He couldn't believe I gave his puppy away without checking with him first....He got a job and would be able to keep the puppy. I call the man I said could have the puppy and he said I couldn't have it back. I told him it wasn't my puppy to give a way and I should have check with my son first. Does my son have any rights to get the son back?

Animals are property. Not like children, no matter we love them. You have no ability to get back the puppy. You also had no ability to give away the puppy. Your son may be able to sue to get back his puppy.

I know a good attorney in Tampa who exclusively practices pet law. I can refer you.

Yes. You had no right to give the puppy away and they have no right to keep the puppy.
