Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

My employer asked me to put out Republican signs throughout our city for a current Senator in the state of Florida on 8\25\12. I said "I'm not interested in putting out Republican signs, I'm not a Republican." he said "Well you work for me and will do what I ask. You can find another job. " I said "If it will cost me my job I will put the signs out. " Then, he said "that comment just cost you your job, it has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats. You can find another job." I told him a few more times if I was going to lose my job I'll do it. He didn't want to talk and told me to give the phone back to my colleague. This conversation happened over the phone.I was hired for grounds keeping but i performed other general maintenance duties as well.. Is this legal?

Thank you for reading this.

Unfortunately, employment in Florida is at will. This means that you can be fired for any reason, or no reason. This is a very sad state of affairs. However, there may be some recourse for you. It costs a lot of money just to have an appointment with a labor law attorney. Good Luck.
