Labor Laws; Overtime
My company was hired by an out of state company to do some contracting work for them. When it comes to overtime pay, which state's laws have to be followed, the state in which the business is being conducted, or the state that the out of state company is located in? Or, are there federal laws that trump any state laws?

Which state laws apply depend on a variety of facts. Venue and jurisdiction can be a complicated area of law. Fortunately, there are also a number of federal laws which may be applicable, most notably the Fair Labor Standards Act. However, that law has many exemptions, exceptions, and exceptions to the exceptions. It is a very complicated law itself.
