Is this legal!
When I started my job I signed a paper stating that they could take money out of my last pay check if the key was not returned (but it never stated when it should be returned) well they resheduled people to accomadate my vacation well I quit the day before and went on vacation. They called me the day I was out of town and told me the key needed to be turned in by the end of the day and I told them it would be done first thing Monday morning because I wasnt in town and I go today to return everything and they told me they took the money out of my check already. It has only been 1 day. I gave her back the supposive ''old'' key and she kept it. I would think if they changed the locks it would do her no good, so why would she keep it? is that legal to take money out since I RETURNED the key?

Generally, employers may not deduct money from an employee's paycheck without the employee's authorization (which you have apparently given). The issue in your situation seems to be the timing involved in returning the key. Whether the deduction is proper will turn of the specific facts of your case; e.g. did you notify the employer that you were quitting BEFORE you left for vacation? Were you asked to return the key in less than 24 hours? Were you asked to return the key outside of normal business hours? etc.
You should contact an attorney and provide them with additional facts in order to get a better idea of whether the deduction was proper?
