Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Personal property Retrival

I recently was let go by my employer. I have been with the company since almost day one of there opening. They recently were sold and the new owners are foreign. They are slowly weeding out all the non-foreign employees. The day they let me go I was proceeded to colloct my personal belongings & tools that I had had at the shop. They called the law on me and had me removed from the premises and a no trespassing warrant put against me. They now are refusing to give me my personal property. They said that they don't know that it belongs to me, because most of it has been there since they bought the company. Most of my tools are like 10-15 years old. What can I do to get my tools back?

Thanks,

William Hughes

Re: Personal property Retrival

Tell them that if they don't return your property, you'll file a lawsuit against them. If they still refuse, go to your local courthouse and file a "small claims lawsuit" where all you have to do is fill out a "Statement of Claim" and pay a small filing fee.
