Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

I recently left a job after a bit more than a week of work, due to dissatisfaction with their repeated rescheduling of meetings and the work not being like I had imagined. They are refusing to pay me for the time I did work (we had verbally agreed to $250 per week).
I have several documents showing much of the work I did for them, but they are claiming that I was "irresponsible and insubordinate" in the work place and they do not have to pay me. I was always on time to work and completed the tasks as requested.
Furthermore, they are saying that they will countersue me for a lot more if I try to push it to small claims court because they have invested time and resources into my hiring and training.
I know it is a very small amount of money, but it is a lot to me and I feel that maybe I am just being bullied, as the owner of the company is an ex-attorney himself.
Would they have any legal right to countersue me in the way they described if I tried to fight for my lost wages?

It does sound like you are being bullied. From your description, they do not have a counterclaim and you are owed the wages.
