Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Can i be terminated when i am ont of work on doctors orders

My boss called me into his office and verbally reprimanded me for going to his boss with a job related issue, in his absence (eventho i tried to contact him first) he told me that i was to never involve his boss in any matters again and if i had a problem with that i needed to cry to human resourced. So i immediately left and went to the h.R. Office. After discussing the incident in part i was told that i needed to go home and submit a written statement of the incident. I was asked if i needed to go home for the day and i said yes. I went from there to my dr. Office and he gave me 2 weeks off work due to acute anxiety. Can i be fired while i am off if i submit the doctors note, and am i required to complete a written statement? Does my employer have to coutinue paying me my sick time?

You may qualify for protection under the Family and Medical Leave Act. Go to www.dol.gov where you can find information on whether you and your employer are covered under the Act. Also, you may have other protections depending on what your complaint was about. You would need to provide the specific facts and consult a lawyer to determine that.
