Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

My family has been renting a home for almost 2 years now. The owner's husband of 5 months rented the house to us under false pretenses. He told us the house was in probate, when it was actually in foreclosure. We didn't think there was a reason to not believe him because we knew him & his wife from going to their yard sales & they came to our yard sales, & we saw them at other yard sales. Always nice & helpful. She worked at a huge RV sales company (she was the top sales person) & made excellent money. The house was in her name, not an estate, & I am not sure it was left to anyone. She also owned the home next door, but that one was left in an estate. This house we are in was sold at foreclosure auction on May 15th. We found out a couple days before that it was going to auction when lots of people showed up at the front door asking us questions & taking pictures of the property. All the money that we paid to him went to drugs. He actually has the drug dealers come to his home right next door many times each day. 2 days ago he came to this house & stole the fan, motor, & compacitor out of the a/c. It is pretty hot here in Florida. We called the sheriff's office out. They treated us like crap. My mom's a stroke victim & they did not care. The one officer told the man to fix it but he didn't. We called the sheriff's office again. Said they will not be back no matter what happens. What can we do?

Have the new owners approached you as to eviction and or continuation of renting? Since the house was sold at auction, you may want to find out who the new owners are and if they will repair the a/c. Also who are you paying rent to since he no longer owns the house.
