Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Problem getting my security deposit returned...

I had a month to month lease, I gave written notice to landlord on Dec. 15th I was moving out on the end of that month. I requested a walk-through to receive my deposit but landlord did not show. I provided him with my new address and left the place spotlessly clean. I just received notice from him that he intends to keep part of my deposit for ''damages'', etc. His letter was postmarked past the thirty day period, January 17th. Has he forfeited his right to keep any/all of my deposit? How should I proceed? Thanks for this great public service.
