Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

My rental apartment is full of bedbugs, i wound up in the hospital with cellulitis from scratching, after 12 days in upon release i was let go from my job, even though i have a letter stating i may return to work. My landlord says he is not responsible for bedbugs, there are 12 units. And i am being evicted.

OMG. So sorry to hear this. As to the eviction. If you have not paid your rent, there is not much that can be done except that when you are actually served the papers for eviction, A Summons and Complaint, then you can respond per the instructions that you receive and remain in the unit until the Court hears your case. You must file an answer with 5 days I believe. List why you should not be evicted. then you could file a separate lawsuit for the expenses for the hospitalization. And a suit for wrongful termination as well.

Unless you can establish by some evidence that the bedbugs were present due to the landlord's negligence than you don't have a claim against the landlord. the issue is where did they come from. Since you are being evicted, you may want to have that investigation done before you depart.
