Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I just rented a room with attached bathroom from a man who knew I had a 15yr. old cat from my ad online, my sister also met with him and he never mentioned that I could not have the cat with me. He also had all month to email or text me about this matter. When I show up with all my belongings, he suddenly says I can not have the cat. I am a disabled veteran, my current landlord was helping me move and I want to know if this is legal. It's very distressing for me as I do not have many options. I also don't have the money to just pick up and move again. Thank you
