Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Sarasota landlords/tenants

I am working for next 48 hrs & need assistance. Today I learned that the entire property (house & cottage)located in Sarasota, FL in which I rent & occupy the rear cottage, has been put on market for sale. I learned this by seeing the sign. How soon or how much notice could a new owner ask me to give up my retal & move if new owners did not want a rental situation? I am appalled current owners did not have consideration to notify me of their intent of property sale to give me ample time to find new loction in case I need it. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Re: Sarasota landlords/tenants

Don't be appalled. Most leases say that the owner may transfer or sell the property without the tenant's consent. But that doesn't mean your lease is over. It just means that if a new buyer purchases the property he/she will be your new landlord and then more than likely your lease payments will go to that new landlord. But whomever purchasers the property will be taking it subject to there already being a tenant on the premises.

Good luck but you probably have nothing to worry about. If you still feel apprehensive then consult your landlord.
