Can they put you in jail if you don't go answer a summons for a car accident that happened 2 years ago?

Technically the answer is yes. But the court would have a hearing first to determine if you deliberately refused to answer a summons for a court appearance. If the judge found that you were willful in refusing to appear, he can hold you in contempt.

If it is a civil summons served with a complaint, however, the answer is no.
