How do I get a security deposit returned after the lease has ended 5 months ago?

The LL must give you written notice of his intent to withhold any/all of your security deposit for damages. If you did not receive a written notice, the LL has waived his right to claim any portion of your security deposit. In order to get back your security deposit, you will have to sue in small claims court and then enforce the judgment.
