Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Taking advantage of an older citizen

My mother whom is 84 years old has 1/3 interest of her mother's estate. The other party whom has 2/3 interest has not submitted any monies to my mother since 1997. How do I go about in obtaining what is rightfully my mother's. We cannot afford an attorney at this time, since my mother fell and broke her leg. I had to take a leave of absence from my employment where I got fired (my employer employs only 15 people) which is why we cannot afford an attorney at this time. Is there a statute that I can review that this issue falls under? Please reply as soon as possible. Thanking you in advance, I remain

Re: Taking advantage of an older citizen

I agree that something is odd if you have not seen an accounting or any money in the last 3 or 4 years and the person with 2/3 of this estate is not communicating with you. You may want to begin by going to the court that is handling this estate and reviewing the file yourself. If money is an issue you might try contacting your local legal aid office or your local bar association. These organizations may be a source for finding an attorney that might represent you at a low or reduced fee. Good luck with this problem and please send me an e-mail if you you need any additional information.
