Legal Question in Workers Comp in Florida

My husband was hurt on the job and recived medical attention from November 2010 untill last week May 13th 2011 last week the doctor told him he will be given permanent partial disability of 6% and the workmans comp case worker/nurse told him he would get a check. Will that prevent him from getting further medical care if needed and how do they figure the check amount out.

Your husband is entitled to medical care for the worker's compensation condition even after he gets his permanent impairment rating. This is the point now where the doctor has placed him at maximum medical improvement. It doesn't mean he is all better, it means that this doctor thinks that he is as good as he is going to get. He can continue medical care so long as he sees an authorized workers' compensation doctor at least once per year. He is entitled to a change in physician to dispute maximum medical improvement, but don't do that without a lawyer approving the next physician. As for the check amount, he will receive something called impairment benefits, 3 weeks for each percentage at 75% of his total disability work rate.
