Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

Joint account on a leased vehicle

I have a problem with what to do with a Joint account for a leased vehicle I have with an ex-boyfriend. The term was a 60 month term and we recently broke up. There are 18 months left in the lease but I don't want to be stuck being dependant on him paying the bill and possibly not paying and hurting my credit. Is there anything I can do to get released from this account? It is not possible for him to refinance in his name because his credit is not good enough. He has possession of the car in Atlanta,GA (where the car was leased) and I have moved to Charlotte, NC.

Re: Joint account on a leased vehicle

You can't force them to take you off the account. And, to protect your credit, you need to make the payments. You may have to sue him for reimbursement.
