Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

My divorce papers say I have to pay 50% of my child's college. My child has decided to go to a private university. I can not afford 50% of this college. I remarried 10 years ago and have two children in the new marriage. my ex-wife is planning on taking me to court. What are my options? Can there be a change made in the papers now to say that I would pay 50% of a public college? Thank You

Probably not, but a lawyer would need to see your papers to be sure. Here's the catch. A judge (as I am sure your lawyer warned you) never could have made you do it in the first place, but when you agree, they can force you to adhere to the contract. A good lawyer would have had you do an agreement with limits (the standard language I use refers to in-state tuition at a public college, limited to 4 years, and with other limits, such as full time, grades, credit for scholarships, etc).
