Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Ex and Mortgage

I have been divorced since June of 2002. I moved out and let my ex have the house because it was on his family's land. Per the divorce he is responsible for payments, and for refinancing the house in his name alone. He has not done this, and now I am trying to buy a house. He has been a month behind on the house payment since right after I left, and this is affecting my credit report, and thus what I may have to come up with for a down payment and interest rates. Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks,

D

Re: Ex and Mortgage

The first thing you should do is make sure the current payments are paid on time, in an effort to protect your credit. I realize this may be tough, but that is my advice. Then you should file a Petition for Contempt against him for all that this has cost you. Consult with a local attorney.
