You might. You should at least speak with one to see if your case is one where you would be best served by hiring a lawyer. Most will consult with you at no charge.

Very much so. Any information they obtain will be used to try and devalue your claim. Having an attorney to force the issue and as a conduit for any information they get will go a long way to insuring you a better settlement than the lowball offer they are likely to make if you are unrepresented.

If you want to get screwed by the insurer, sign the release. As a general rule, they will use everything you provide to deny and reduce your claim. At best, you may get 10 or 20 cents on the dollar compared with what you get with a lawyer. Do NOT talk to the adjuster at all. Do NOT send anything to the adjuster. It will hurt your claim. Since a lawyer will charge you nothing unless you collect, that is what you need.
