Legal Question in Personal Injury in Georgia

police officer hurt on job required surgery, later settled workers comp claim and resigned. Previous city mayor contacted my new city mayor and informed him that i sued his city and told him the ammount of my settlement. I have never sued any one in my life and i am 44 years old also this is the first time i have ever been on workers comp. Now i am in fear that i will lose my job because of the Previous mayors actions

Make an appointment with the Mayor of the new city where you work. Tell him the truth, that you were hurt on the job, you healed up, you settled the comp case (emphasizing that it was a worker's comp claim-not a lawsuit) and, finally, that you were and are physically able to perform all your duties as a police officer. Also tell him that the worker's comp people made you sign a letter of resignation as a condition of settling your claim (this is a common practice and can be verified by the Mayor easily by him asking any competent worker's comp attorney).I think in this situation where it is better to be proactive rather than reactive. If the new employer fires you, hire an attorney who is an expert in employment law, particularly ADA claims, and sue the pants off the new employer. Have the attorney also evaluate a potential claim against you previous employer, as well.
