Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Adding my name

I am single and share a home with a friend. We have shared my home for almost 5 years. We want to rennovate my home and and take out a loan to do so. My friend will be paying for the rennovation. I would like to establish some type of legal agreement in case of my death that my friend would not lose her money. I don't know if adding her name to the deed would be the best way to go or making some other form of legal document. In the end, we would both end up paying 1/2 the total cost of the home.

Re: Adding my name

I think you can accomplish your goal by executing a new deed to yourself and your friend as "joint tenants with rights of survivorship". I know this sounds weird, so consult with a local attorney who can sit down with you and explain the nuts and bolts.

Re: Adding my name

The best arrangement would be to make a contract that states the terms of your agreement. Call me @ 770.998.3434 to discuss the details.
