Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

Lawyer does not seem to be doing his job..

I am the executor of my mother's estate. The lawyer that I have selected is suppose to be handling the deeding over of some of the estates properties to the appropriate heirs. This process seems to be taking MONTHS to do, 6 to be exact.

The only time I can talk to him is if I make an appointment as he will not ever return my phone calls. He promises me he is working on it when we do meet but then I never hear a word. My patience has gone it's course! Settling a simple estate should not take this long...

My question is this.. How smart would it be for me to seek another lawyer in which to help me finish handling my mother's estate. I am becoming concerned that soon I will hear from one of the heir's lawyer's about this taking so long. Would contacting the probate judge himself do any good?

Thanks in advance for your response!

6 months is not an abnormal time to probate an estate.

Without seeing the file, no one here can tell you what would be reasonable.

You cannot talk to the judge directly.

I think you are right to be outraged about the lawyer's failure to stay in touch with you. You should immediately consult with another attorney. Call around and ask your friends, business assiotes, etc. for referrals.

Don't ask for help from the probate court. They are not in the business of doing that.
