Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

Filing an answer with the Court

I have been going to court over two years now with my old land lord about property that we lived in. We are coming down to the end of this, and the court has asked me to file an answer....what exactly does that mean?...How do I go about doing that?....

Re: Filing an answer with the Court

Well, it is a bit difficult with the little information you provided. However, generally speaking, an "answer" is a response to a complaint. A "complaint" is the document that starts a lawsuit.

Sounds like your former landlord sued you, and you never formally responded to the complaint. In order to "answer" the complaint, you -- again, generally speaking -- either "admit" the particular allegation of the complain (you respond in paragraphs numbered to correspond to the numbered paragraphs of the complaint), "deny" the allegation or "deny knowledge or information sufficient to form a belief as to the truth of the allegation."
