Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

gun ownership rights

About 3 years ago, I was arrested for driving on a suspended license. I didn't know it was suspended at the time, and the police were very accomodating, as the worst thing I've ever had for a police record, were some speeding tickets. During my first court appearance, the judge told me I needed a lawyer. When everything was done, and my fines paid, my lawyer told me I'd have a felony on my record. (This was the first and only time I've ever had an incident like this. And was told recently that a felony is unusual.) 1- Is it unusual? 2-Do I lose my right to vote? 3-Can I still apply for a gun license and own a gun? (After my lawyer informed me of the felony, I asked him about gun ownership, and he said I could. But after finding out about the irregularity of getting a felony conviction for one offense, I'm wondering about the integrity of my lawyer.)

Re: gun ownership rights

Hello. I am surprised that you would have a

felony on your record for this kind of offense.

In fact,..... I don't believe it! I suggests that you do a search of your records to determine whether you are the victim of mistaken identity. Of course, that has happened to people. I will be happy to answer any additional related questions.
